Privacy Policy

Last updated September 9, 2026

Safe Harbor is built to be anonymous by default. We don't ask for your name, email, or an account to use Talk or the Wall of Hope. This page explains the little information we do handle.

What we collect

  • An anonymous visitor code. When you open Talk, we set a random ID in a cookie on your device so we can show you your own conversation when you come back. It isn't tied to your name or any other identity.
  • The messages you send in Talk. We store conversation messages so the chat works and so a team member can read and reply to you, including after you close the tab.
  • Wall of Hope posts. What you submit is stored and reviewed by our team before it's published publicly.
  • A country preference. To show the right crisis line, the site guesses your country from your device's timezone, entirely in your browser. If you pick a different country from the dropdown on the Get help page, that choice is saved in your browser's local storage only. Neither your timezone nor this preference is sent to our servers.
  • Standard server logs. Like most web hosts, our infrastructure may briefly log technical details such as IP address and request timestamps, for security and operating the service. We don't use these logs to build a profile of you.

What we don't do

We don't use third-party analytics or advertising trackers, we don't sell your information, and we don't share conversation content or Wall of Hope submissions with anyone outside our team, except where we believe we're required to by law.

How long we keep it

We keep Talk conversations and Wall of Hope submissions for as long as needed to run the service. You can ask us to delete a conversation or a post you made using the contact details below; because everything is anonymous, we may not be able to verify a deletion request beyond what you can tell us about the conversation.

Children's privacy

Safe Harbor doesn't verify age, and we know people under 18 use crisis and peer support resources like this one. We don't knowingly collect more information from a younger visitor than from anyone else, and the same minimal, anonymous approach described above applies to everyone.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
